CHRIS MADDEN FURNISHES HOME FOR NOTED JAZZ PERFORMER IN MUSICIAN’S VILLAGE NEW ORLEANS

NEW YORK – Celebrity Designer CHRIS MADDEN recently furnished the new home of noted jazz musician, Al Johnson, in Musician’s Village, New Orleans. Al, whose previous home had been devastated by the effects of Hurricane Katrina, is among those who have been helped by Chris’ “Project Katrina” initiative. Previously, Madden had helped furnish the homes of the Diaz, Piernas, Parker, Nguyen and Desportes families in 2007 and 2008.

Madden first launched “Project Katrina” in April of 2007 to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of her company. The milestone provided the perfect occasion for this effort as philanthropy and the importance of giving back have always been the cornerstone of her mission and vision. A force in the design industry, Chris’ vision of home as haven has impacted millions whether through her 16 books, her television show “Interiors By Design” which she hosted for eight seasons, her role as Oprah’s first design correspondent, or through her successful home furnishings line at JCPenney. Chris is thrilled to be taking her philosophy on the meaning of home and using it to help those impacted by Katrina’s disastrous effects. “This is exactly what I envisioned doing with the samples I have been receiving from JCPenney of all of my designs and I am thrilled to be able to do my part to help these families try to furnish their homes, personalize their spaces and help recreate their family histories,” explains Chris Madden.

Chris plans to continue her work with “Project Katrina” throughout 2009 and beyond and is donating a portion of the proceeds from her 17th book – THE SOUL OF A HOUSE (which will be published by Rizzoli in Fall 2010) – to this important initiative.
