Chris Madden Inc. is an iconic and successful home furnishings company founded by celebrity designer and chief executive officer Chris Madden. The company spans design, publishing, licensing and television.
Chris’ mantra of “turning home into haven” has been shared with millions of women all across America through her numerous books, magazine and newspaper columns, speeches and national television appearances — including the first design correspondent on the “Oprah Show” and as host of her own show on HGTV for eight seasons. She is the author of 18 books, most recently The Soul of a House, published by Rizzoli International. That book – a first look at her own home – shares Chris’ life-long passion for design and her vision of the home as a place of celebration, sanctuary, and rejuvenation. Chris has designed home furnishings for Mohawk Home, Bassett Furniture, and JCPenney.
She has long been dedicated to a host of philanthropic initiatives. In 2009, she was presented with the IFDA Presidential Commendation for Outstanding Service and Dedication to the United States Armed Forces. Her “Operation Cozy Comfort,” launched in partnership with WestPoint Home, provided plush blankets to wounded U.S. troops hospitalized overseas. In addition, she marked the 30th anniversary of her company by launching “Project Katrina” in which she has personally furnished several Gulf Coast residences damaged by Hurricane Katrina. She also worked with Habitat for Humanity & Architecture for Humanity. Chris holds honorary doctorates from the Academy of Art University and the Fashion Institute of Technology; she also serves on the board of trustees at FIT.
Chris lives with her husband Kevin, former publisher of House & Garden Magazine, along with her two faithful dogs Rocky & Dudley. She is the mother of two grown sons.
